A massive blast ripped apart an ammunition factory in southern Yemen, killing 70 people and wounding more than 100 in fresh violence in the strife-torn key Arab state, where crucial transition of power talks have been stalled.
Rescue officials confirmed casualties in the incident, claiming to have already recovered 5 bodies from the heap of debris where the cracker manufacturing unit once stood.
A few live bombs and missile components were recovered.
The death toll in the massive explosion at an industrial unit in Dombivali township of the district has risen to six while 159 injured were undergoing treatment, a senior official said on Friday.
The fire department said they received a call around 4.23 am about a fire in the factory at Udoh Nagar area after which seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot, the official said.
Fire at the factory was still not doused completely more than 48 hours after the tragedy struck ahead of Eid festival.
